What is Yuletide or Yule?

Yuletide is simply the period of several days around and including Christmas Day. Just a few people know about Yuletide and its meaning because it is not the common word for this good season, people rather prefer to address the whole of December as the Christmas season, I will be telling you what Yuletide is all about.

Yule or Yuletide is the ancient Pagan celebration of the Winter solstice, named so because of the large Yule log that burnt within the hall fire.

It went by many names one such name was Saturnalia, when Christianity was growing and trying to convert as many people as possible (mainly the Roman and Celtic Pagans) the celebration of the birth of Jesus was moved to coincide with the ancient pagan rite of Yuletide.

In fact, many of the Christian holidays have their roots in Pagan celebration and Lore all done to convert the Pagan Heathens, it worked of course, after 2,000 years Christianity is one of the largest religions in the world spreading across 4 continents and multiple sects. – Source: Quora

Yule 2022 began on Wednesday, 21 December and ends on Sunday, 1 January 2022

What’s The Difference Between “Yule” And “Christmas”?

Yule, or the original 12-day solstice festival celebrated thousands of years before Christmas, is considered one of the oldest celebrations of wintertime in the world. It begins the shortest day of the year on the winter solstice and ends 12 days later. This year, that would mean yule marks December 21, 2021 through January 1, 2022.

However, if you’re using the word yule to refer to Christmas, you’re referencing a different time period altogether. Yule can refer to both Christmas Day (December 25) and the broader Christmas season. Similarly, the word Christmas can refer to December 25 itself, but it can also refer to the whole Christmas season.

Other terms for the Christmas season are Christmastime and Christmastide, where tide refers to an old term meaning “a season or period in the course of the year, day, etc.” In the Christian church, tide historically has a stricter sense of “a period of time that includes and follows an anniversary, festival, etc.”
